Dallas Renters Guide

Move-Out Cleaning Checklist for Dallas Renters

A room-by-room checklist trusted by Dallas property managers — designed to help you get your full security deposit back.

Moving out of a Dallas apartment, condo, or rental home? Texas landlords have 30 days to return your security deposit (Texas Property Code §92.103) — but they can deduct for cleaning that goes beyond "normal wear and tear." After 19+ years cleaning rentals across DFW, our team built this checklist from what local landlords and property managers actually inspect.

Print it, work top-to-bottom, and tackle the kitchen and bathrooms last so they stay spotless on walkthrough day. If you'd rather hand it off, our Dallas move-out cleaning service comes with a re-clean guarantee.

Kitchen

Landlords inspect the kitchen first. Grease and food residue are the #1 reason Dallas renters lose part of their deposit.

  • Degrease oven interior, racks, and broiler pan
  • Pull out the fridge, vacuum coils, clean inside and behind
  • Scrub microwave inside and out (turntable too)
  • Wipe inside every cabinet and drawer
  • Polish stainless appliances and faucet
  • Sanitize sink, disposal, and backsplash
  • Sweep, mop, and detail baseboards

Bathrooms

Dallas humidity means grout and caulk get inspected closely. Plan extra time here.

  • Descale shower, tub, glass doors, and fixtures
  • Scrub grout lines and re-caulk if mildewed
  • Disinfect toilet base, tank, and behind seat
  • Wipe mirrors, vanities, and inside cabinets
  • Clean exhaust fan cover
  • Empty and wipe medicine cabinet

Bedrooms & Living Areas

Walls, baseboards, and floors are where most deposit deductions happen.

  • Patch nail holes and touch up paint (if your lease requires)
  • Wipe walls, doors, frames, and switch plates
  • Dust ceiling fans, vents, and light fixtures
  • Clean inside and outside of windows and tracks
  • Vacuum carpets edge-to-edge; spot-treat stains
  • Mop hard floors and detail baseboards
  • Empty and wipe closet shelves and rods

Laundry, Patio & Garage

Easy to forget — and easy money for your landlord to withhold.

  • Wipe washer/dryer exterior and lint trap area
  • Sweep patio/balcony and remove cobwebs
  • Hose off patio furniture marks
  • Sweep garage and remove oil stains if possible
  • Replace burned-out bulbs and AC filter
  • Take out all trash and bulk items
